Public Safety Building Committee

Public Safety Building Committee will serve at the direction of the Selectboard and work with the Town Administrator and other town personnel, committees and consultants to advance the goals of the Selectboard relative to the Public Safety Building project.

Members

This committee will consist of 7 voting members appointed by the Selectboard, with:

  • 2 members having prior experience with this project or with building industry experience
  • a member of the Selectboard
  • one member specializing in Natural Resources and/or environmental regulatory issues, such as a Conservation Commission member
  • a representative from the Environmental Action Committee
  • 2 members at large from the community

Non-voting members would include the Police and Fire Chiefs or their designees, one representative from the Advisory Committee and one from the Historical Commission. The committee will be provided with staff support from the Town Administrator, and will liaise with other staff members as needed.

Charge

The Committee will assist the Owners’ Project Manager and Project Architect as they finalize the building design (floor plan and exterior appearance), cost estimates, and create the final design and construction documents to bring the project to the bid-ready (sometimes referred to as shovel-ready) state.

Responsibilities

The Committee’s purpose is to:

  • provide assistance to the Architect
  • help coordinate tasks and manage separable pieces of work
  • make recommendations to the Selectboard to facilitate hiring of an Owners’ Project Manager
  • provide assistance to the Owners’ Project Manager
  • perform community outreach activities to ensure that residents’ voices are heard and ensure they are informed of what is happening throughout this phase of the project
  • support the Town Administrator in grant application process as needed

Resident Inclusion

Lastly, and most importantly, the Committee will be responsible for resident inclusion throughout this project phase, including but not limited to, actively engaging and informing residents through all appropriate media channels, by holding information sessions and resident forums and encouraging attendance at Building Committee meetings.

Reporting

The Committee will report progress to the Selectboard as requested but at least monthly. In addition, the Committee’s webpage will be updated regularly to keep residents informed.
