Princeton Historical Commission

November 16, 2023

Attendees: Tom Kokernak - chair, Carl Soderberg, vice-chair, Larry Todd - clerk, Joyce Anderson, Gina Polewaczyk

Tom opened the meeting at 7:03 pm.

The meeting minutes of 9/21/23 and 10/26/23 were approved.

Budget: We made a deposit of $76.03 to the donations account with a check for royalties from Arcadia Publishing. Joyce explained that future royalties for her book will go to the Princeton Historical Society. There were no other additions or expenses in the past month.

Curry printing has not been paid and we will try to use the funds we encumbered from last year’s budget.

Sign for Paupers’ Graves: Joyce sent information showing possible placement of a plaque on the existing Town Plot stone, and some information about sources for the plaque and costs.

After discussion we decided to put the plaque on a separate base, possibly on the ground at an angle and placed in front of the existing marker. We need to decide on the wording; Joyce read something she wrote which is a good starting point.

Should we include a QR code in some way so that additional information, including the names of people who lived and died at the town farm can be found. We felt this is important but will research how other historic sites have done this.

Cemetery Preservation: Tom and Larry visited Meetinghouse cemetery a few days ago. The tombs look quite secure for now.

We now have 8 or 9 stone fragments with lettering and/or carving to display at the Princeton library in January. Larry will draft a descriptive note for the display and also reference all 7 cemeteries in Princeton.

Update on Public Safety: nothing to report except Tom may be asked to play some

role with the group.

Demolition permits: our commission did receive a notice of a permit so we are now included for future permits.

Jeff Yaglou expressed an interest in joining the commission. Tom invited him to attend tonight’s meeting but he did not. Tom will let the selectboard know.

The next meeting will be held remotely on Thursday, December 21 at 7pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:08pm

Respectfully submitted, Larry Todd, clerk
