Princeton Historical Commission
Minutes for February 9, 2021

Attendees: Matthew Lindberg, Larry Todd, Joyce Anderson

Matt posted this meeting as a joint meeting with the board of selectmen; Matt was unsure if the historical commission would have a quorum. We did.

Karen Cruise opened the meeting of the selectboard at 10:00 am.

The initial discussion was selectboard business.

At 10:13, under new business, Karen opened the discussion with the Princeton historical commission of the proposed policy regarding the town common; she referenced the writeup by Matt.

There was a question from Richard Bisk regarding the reference to “shrubs” and Matt noted it meant no additional plantings on the common.

Karen expressed concern that the policy as written was too restrictive and she favored the policy as reviewed previously with Joyce. She said the town may need to place a large water storage tank under the common and felt the proposed wording may preclude this. She also felt Goodnow park should also be included as an active part of the town campus.

Matt responded and explained that language which is too loose may lead to future challenges when someone comes to the town with a proposal for the common.

Joyce commented that she has been on the commission for 25 years. She said there may be a request for a brick walkway on the common as a memorial and a clear policy would make it easier to respond to such requests.

It was agreed by the selectboard that the historical commission will revise the draft submitted today. The selectboard finished discussions with the commission at 10:35 am.

Respectfully submitted, Larry Todd, clerk
