Princeton Historical Commission

Minutes for July 23, 2020

Attendees: Matthew Lindberg - chair, Carl Soderberg - vice-chair, Jane Morrisson,Larry Todd - clerk

The meeting was held online. There was some difficulty in getting the meeting started; the meeting was opened at 7:35 by Matt.

A Motion was made and approved unanimously to accept the meeting minutes from 6/18/20 as written.

Discussion of demolitions: A demolition bylaw was proposed some years ago but the selectboard did not support it, but did add the historical commission to those who sign off on demolition permits. There was more discussion but no decision regarding bringing a demolition bylaw to the town again. Regarding current demolition requests, the commission agreed the chair should review any request and sign off if there is no historic significance involved; otherwise notify the rest of the commission for their input. Matt did sign off on the demolition request for the garage at 18 Mountain Road.

Town Pound : the funds are encumbered for work on the access to the pound. The work needs to be done by 9/1/20. Carl will follow up with the contractor. Matt did communicate with Brian on the conservation commission about the work to be done.

East Princeton Village sign: the existing sign which reads “welcome to East Princeton Village” was approved by the commission. Apparently Joyce Anderson informed the highway department the sign should say: Historic East Princeton Village and it should be changed. Matt will follow up with Joyce.

There was discussion about putting up a formal East Princeton National Historic District sign. For further consideration.

Matt reported he communicated with Karen Cruise about Mechanics Hall and our wish to be informed of the progress. Karen asked the commission for a written description of what the commission does. Matt will work on this.

Matt reported there is a selectboard meeting scheduled for August 11 at 10am which will discuss the community host agreement related to the pot shop proposed for Mechanics Hall in East Princeton.

The nex meeting is scheduled for Thursday,  August 20 at 7pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:22pm

Respectfully submitted,

Larry Todd, clerk
