Snow & Ice Policy

The EAC identified the need for a Winter Maintenance Operations Policy and Plan  “to help ensure safety and coordination and preparation prior to the winter season” and to “set standards for certain activities and applications for certain materials with consideration of the balance of public safety and the environmental impact of sand and salt.”

In December 2020, the Selectboard considered a draft Snow and Ice Policy presented by the Highway Department, and agreed to include consideration of environmental impacts in the final Snow and Ice Policy. In March 2021, EAC member Corey Burnham-Howard began working with Sherry Patch and Highway Department Director Ben Metcalf to possibly incorporate environmental impact-related considerations into the draft Snow and Ice Policy.
