Selectboard - Residential POET and Speed Updates

RESIDENTIAL POET UPDATE

The Invitation for Bid for the Residential Point of Entry Treatment Systems (POETS) was released on July 25th.  Bids are due on August 18th.  This is the second attempt to receive bids within the funding appropriated at the Special Town Meeting on November 17, 2021.  The first attempt yielded only one bid and it was well over the funding appropriated.  The specifications have been revised in an effort to attract more vendors.  In the event that bids come in higher than funding appropriated, the Selectboard will consider other sources of funding. We will continue to update residents as we move forward with the project.  Thank you for your patience.

SPEEDING UPDATE

In response to many speeding complaints on town roads, the selectboard is exploring several options to curtail speeding traffic.  Selectboard member Robert Cumming is taking the lead on this initiative, and will be working with the Town Administrator, Chief Powers, and Highway Superintendent Ben Metcalf.  The board is also considering appointing a Traffic Calming Committee, and establishing a structured  process  and consistent criteria to respond to and address traffic calming requests.  This will be discussed further at the Selectboard meeting on August 10th at 9:00 AM. Other measures discussed at the Selectboard meeting include reducing the speed limit in town, improving signage, increasing police presence, and installing traffic calming devices such as speed plateaus, speed bumps and raised crosswalks.
