Selectboard Guidance on Halloween

Many residents have asked for guidance about Halloween and trick or treating activities.  Attached is a one page document from the Academic Public Health Volunteer Corps (APHVC) *   that summarizes advice about how to enjoy Halloween while staying safe.

The CDC has additional information about holiday celebrations (including Halloween) posted at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html#during-celebration
Please note the CDC’s advice about masks:

Wear masks
  • Wear a mask at all times when around people who don’t live in your household to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
  • Avoid singing, chanting, or shouting, especially when not wearing a mask and within 6 feet of others.
Do not use costume masks in place of cloth masks
  • Do not use a costume mask (such as for Halloween) as a substitute for a cloth mask unless it is made of two or more layers of breathable fabric that covers your mouth and nose and doesn’t leave gaps around your face.
  • Do not wear a costume mask over a cloth mask because it can be dangerous if the costume mask makes it hard to breathe. Instead, consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask.
In Princeton, we ask that there be no trunk or treating, hay rides or other activities that would cause congregations of people that could put residents at risk. Treats should be individually packaged.  If you are handing out treats, please wear a mask. If you are leaving treats outside, please do not put them in a single basket, but space them out on a table or other surface.  We don’t want many hands in the same basket.

We recognize that some residents may feel uncomfortable having trick or treaters come to their door this Halloween season. If so, please leave your lights off so as to avoid any confusion.  We ask trick or treaters to please respect everyone’s wishes. Please limit trick or treating to the hours of 4 PM to 7 PM.

We wish you all a fun, safe and healthy Halloween.
