Route 140 Update

This update is from Greg Oswitt, Project Manager at J. H. Lynch and Sons.

Here is an update for Rte. 140 MASSDOT Construction for Week Ending 8/3/19 and for the upcoming week.

Work Zone from Keyes Brook Bridge to the Northern Limit (Fire Station including the roundabout):

Major excavation has been completed and the first layer of gravel has been placed to a rough grade in this section.  This area will see very little activity Monday and Tuesday.  Wednesday-Friday, the grader will start fine grading the gravel and placing dense graded crushed stone in this zone. Paving is scheduled for August 12-14 in this zone.

Work Zone From Keyes Brook Bridge to Leominster Road:

The pavement has been removed and underground drainage has been completed this past week.  Masons are at work on a stone wall just south of the bridge and this will continue.  Excavation crew will start digging out the unsuitable material to subgrade in this area on Monday and will continue most of the week.  Gravel base will be placed in this area as well during next week.  When the grader finishes the North side of the bridge, the grader will move to the South side of the bridge and fine grade the gravel and place dense graded crushed stone in this zone.  Paving is scheduled for August 14-16 in this zone.

Bridge Work:

The deck on the bridge was poured this past Wednesday and it is curing and gaining strength.  Rebar and formwork have begun on the approach slabs with more forming and pouring to continue next week.  This remains on schedule to open on September 3, 2019.

Drainage Work:

We have mobilized another drainage crew so we have 2 separate drainage crews at work from Leominster Road to the Southern project limit.  This will continue Monday-Friday next week.  Our goal is to complete the drainage in this section and perform the excavation/gravel/dense graded/paving of the base layers in this area by the time the bridge is scheduled to be opened.

As always, thank you for your cooperation and patience.
