Notice from the Office of the Town Clerk: Annual Town of Princeton Voter Inactivation - Inactive voters who wish to vote at the 2023 Annual Town Meeting MUST register to vote by 5pm Friday, June 9th, 2023 or bring a valid ID to the election

The Annual Town Census was mailed to all Princeton households in early January. All residents should review the information on the census form, make any changes if necessary, sign and return the form by the middle to end of May.

The Annual Town Census is important for many reasons:

  • Census figures are used to determine grants and to receive state and federal reimbursements.
  • The census establishes legal residence for voting privileges and town benefits.
  • The census is the vehicle by which annual street lists are printed for distribution to police, fire, and emergency personnel.
  • Filing a census may provide you with proof of residency for a number of legal requirements, such as in-state tuition at state colleges, housing benefits, veterans benefits, and insurance benefits.
  • School enrollments are based on the town census.
  • Be sure that your household phone number is listed on the census. Your number will only be used for emergency purposes.
  • Any registered voters in a household that fail to complete and return the annual census before June 1st, 2023 will lose their "active voter" status

According to Massachusetts General Law Chapter 51 section 37, the office of the Town Clerk must inactivate voters that did not return their 2023 Census by the first Monday of June.  If the Clerk's Office did not receive your signed Census prior to June 1st, 2023, your voter registration has been changed to inactive. This year green postcards will be mailed out to Princeton Residents who have not responded to the 2023 census and are now inactivated voters. The green postcards will be mailed out this week and next week- If you would like to be reactivated, please sign and return the prepaid postcard back to the Town Clerk's Office. To avoid this in the future, be sure to sign and return your census on time!

You can check your voter registration status and register to vote online at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/ , by mail or in person at the Town Clerk's Office

As a friendly reminder, The Annual Town Meeting will be held on June 20, 2023 at 6:30pm at the Thomas Prince School. If you have not returned your completed census prior to June 1st, 2023 and wish to vote at the Annual Town Meeting, please register by one of the three methods listed above before 5pm on June 9th, 2023. The last day to register to vote at the Annual Town Meeting is by 5pm June 9th, 2023.

The Board of Registrars will be available at the Town Hall this Friday 9am-5pm to assist residents who would like to register to vote in person. This is a necessary step for residents who wish to vote at the Annual Town Meeting but have not responded to the 2023 census. You must be an active voter to participate at the Annual Town Meeting and inactive voters will be flagged in the electronic check-in system.
