New Volunteer Opportunities

With the acceptance by the State of the town’s Housing Production Plan, the Selectboard is forming the Housing Production Plan Implementation Committee. It will be made up of residents, local stakeholders, experts, advocates, and local officials and is charged with implementing the goals and strategies of the Housing Production Plan. This committee is responsible for stewarding the implementation of the plan. It shall meet on a regular basis to pursue action items in the plan, monitor implementation progress, coordinate with public officials and community partners, and build public support for the action items necessary to implement the plan such as zoning changes and funding allocation. The Selectboard seeks three residents, at least one of whom has experience in housing partnerships, affordable housing, or housing-related grant writing.

We are looking for applications to be the Town Perambulator (a five-year position). The Town Perambulator is appointed by the Selectboard to officially 'witness' (visit and mark) the stone monuments that mark the 'corners' of Princeton. There are 24 monuments to be located, marking the points of bearing changes in the legal boundary line dividing Princeton from the surrounding towns. Witnessing is required every five years by a long-standing Commonwealth statute, and is typically accomplished by painting the year on the Princeton face of each monument, and reporting back to the Selectboard upon completion of the project.

The Advisory Committee has been short two members for a long time. If you are interested in the operations of the town, in particular relating to finances, please consider this committee. Per Massachusetts General Law, they “shall consider any or all municipal questions for the purpose of making reports or recommendations to the town.” Voters at Town Meeting listen to the opinion of the Advisory Committee as they are deciding how to vote on various matters.

The Conservation Commission, Environmental Action Committee, Master Plan Steering Committee, Cultural Council, and Cemetery Commission all seek one or two new members. You can learn about these committees by attending meetings, checking out their webpages, or talking with a member.

A list of vacancies and applications for volunteers can be found by clicking the Vacancies button on the home page or clicking on this: http://www.town.princeton.ma.us/home/pages/vacancies. Most boards and committees have a description of what they do on their page.
