Important Voter Deadlines for the May 13, 2024 Annual Town Election and FAQs

ANNUAL TOWN ELECTION

MONDAY, MAY 13, 2024

POLLS OPEN: 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM

Last Day to Register to Vote at the Annual Town Election: 5pm, Friday, May 3, 2024

  • The Clerk’s Office will be open from 9am-5pm on May 3rd for residents not yet registered to vote in Princeton who wish to register in person
  • You may also register to vote or check your voter registration status online at www.registertovotema.com

Voters can choose whether they would prefer to vote in person at the polls on Election Day or by mail. Voters who wish to vote by mail are encouraged to apply early to allow ample time for processing your application and for the postal services to deliver your ballot to you.

Please note: In-Person Early Voting will not be offered for the local election. The Annual Town Election is a non-partisan election. Party enrollment only impacts the ballot you receive in a Primary.

Vote by Mail Application Deadline: 5pm, Monday, May 6th, 2024

  • If you wish to vote by mail and have returned your “Vote By Mail” postcard to the Clerk’s Office with “All 2024 elections” selected, you will be mailed a ballot for the annual town election.

  • If you wish to vote by mail for the annual town election only, please be sure to print, complete, sign and return your Vote By Mail application to the Clerk’s Office by the application deadline. Postmark is not acceptable.

o   If you wish to receive a mail-in ballot for the remainder of 2024 (including the town election if request is received by the application deadline for the local election) you can apply online at the link below.

Return of Mail-In Ballots:  Mail-in ballots can be returned by mail, hand delivered to the Clerk’s Office or delivered in the secured ballot dropbox at the front entrance of Town Hall. In order to be counted, mail-In ballots must be received before the polls close on Election Day. Mail-In ballots will not be accepted at the polling location on Election Day. Please be sure to return your mail-in ballot to the Clerk’s Office.

Absentee Ballots are available to those who qualify. For example, if you have a religious belief or disability that prevents you from voting at the polls, you qualify to vote absentee for the Annual Town Election, either by mail or in person at the Office of the Town Clerk. Deadline to Vote Absentee In-Person: 5pm, Thursday, May 9, 2024 in the Town Clerk's Office. 

The election warrant will be posted on the Town of Princeton website in addition to Bagg Hall, Princeton Public Library and the Princeton Post Office. Nine positions and one referendum question will appear on the 2024 Annual Town Election Ballot. For more information and updates, please visit the town website. 

The ballot will be finalized after the following deadlines have passed:

  • 5pm, Monday, April 8: Selectboard to submit ballot questions, if any, to the Town Clerk's Office
  • 5pm, Wednesday, April 10, 2024: The last day to file an objection to a nomination or for a candidate to withdraw name from the ballot

  • The warrant and sample ballot will be posted on the Town Website, Bagg Hall, Princeton Public Library and Princeton Post Office when available. Please check town website for updates. 

Will I need an ID?

  • Bring an ID. Some voters, such as inactive voters, may need to show an ID to vote.
