From the Clerk's Office: 2024 Annual Street List Town Census Second Mailing Notice

Second mailing notices of the Annual Street List Town Census have been mailed out today.

At the beginning of each year, the Town Clerk's Office is required under Massachusetts General Law to mail the annual street listing form to every household in Princeton. Residents are urged to check the information contained on the form, make any necessary corrections, sign the form and return it to the Town Clerk's Office as soon as possible. Ignoring the first mailing leads to additional costs to taxpayers, as the Town, is required to send out a second mailing. If you or someone listed in your household has moved, please include a forwarding address. A dog license application is included with the second mailing. You can disregard the form if you do not have a dog or have already licensed your dog for 2024. The deadline to license your dog this year is April 30, 2024.

The Annual Town Census is important for many reasons:

  • Census figures are used to determine grants and to receive state and federal reimbursements.
  • The census establishes legal residence for voting privileges and town benefits.
  • The census is the vehicle by which annual street lists are printed for distribution to police, fire, and emergency personnel.
  • Filing a census may provide you with proof of residency for a number of legal requirements, such as in-state tuition at state colleges, housing benefits, veterans benefits, and insurance benefits.
  • School enrollments are based on the town census.
  • Be sure that your household phone number is listed on the census. Your number will only be used for emergency purposes.
  • Any registered voters in a household that fails to complete and return the annual census before June 1st, 2024 will lose their "active voter" status

Inactive voters will need to provide identification and fill out an affidavit at the polls.
