Rabies positivity in local raccoon / Springtime wildlife notice

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health has notified the Town of Princeton Board of Health that they have received a positive rabies test result in a raccoon sent to their laboratory this past week. Animal Control Officials retrieved the raccoon from the Brooks Station Road area, and the Animal Control Officer is aware of the situation. It is asked that residents in this area refrain from letting their animals out unleashed.

We have also received several calls related to bears active in the area. The Board suggests taking in any outdoor birdfeeders as not to attract unwelcome wildlife. Please keep in mind that wildlife are having their babies now, and it is not unusual to see foxes, raccoons, etc.,out during the day as they are foraging for food to feed their young. Please report any issues to the Princeton Police Department at 978-464-2928 or by calling 911 in the event of an emergency.

Thank you
