Zoning Board of Appeals

The ZBA meets on an as-need basis as a judiciary body only.Its charge, in brief, is per Mass. General Laws -- Chapter 40A Section 14:

A board of appeals shall have the following powers:—
(1) To hear and decide appeals to a decision of the zoning enforcement officer (building inspector).
(2) To hear and decide applications for special permits upon which the board is empowered under Princeton Zoning Bylaws.
(3) To hear and decide petitions for variances to the local zoning bylaw.

Meetings of the board shall be held at the call of the chairman and are generally scheduled on a Thursday evening. The board of appeals shall hold a hearing on any appeal, application or petition within sixty-five days from the receipt of notice by an applicant. The board’s staff shall cause notice of such hearing to be published and sent to parties in interest as provided in section eleven. The chairman, or in his absence the acting chairman, may administer oaths, summon witnesses, and call for the production of papers.
