Open Space Committee
Open Space Committee (OSC) members are town-appointed with the primary goal to review and implement the Open Space and Recreation Plan. Updates to this report are submitted to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts every seven years, a requirement that qualifies the town's eligibility to submit proposals for state-sponsored awards and grants. The plan is used to drive improvement projects during the seven year period.
OSC’s primary areas of emphasis are:
• Preservation of land within the boundaries of Princeton that are deemed beneficial for recreational use.
• Stewardship of our natural resources and maintaining the town’s rural character and conservation of its diverse natural landscape.
• Fostering private landowner awareness of land conservation and stewardship with the aim of exploring areas of cooperation beneficial to all parties.
• Creating, developing, maintaining and promoting utilization the more than 100 miles of current trails currently in use in Princeton and neighboring areas.
Princeton Hikes!, established by the OSC to provide opportunities for guided group hikes in and around Princeton. The hikes, open to all, are scheduled for both beginners and more experienced hikers. We also offer the solitary hiker or small groups with documentation of some of the best hikes in and around Princeton.
Trails Around Princeton (TAP) is an ongoing project of the Open Space Committee to proactively develop, document, and improve the existing network of trails and their connections to one another.
