Selectboard Update on COVID-19

Dear Residents,

As many of you are aware, the world is now in the midst of facing COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus). The Selectboard is writing to update you on the virus and how it relates to Princeton. This virus has been officially labeled by the World Health Organization as a pandemic, and research has shown that it disproportionately affects older demographics. The Selectboard understands that our own demographic here in Princeton is skewed in that direction, and therefore is taking this matter very seriously. Many of your concerns expressed in person and   on Nextdoor have been noted. We understand that these can be frightening and trying times for the community, and we want you to know the Town of Princeton has already begun to take measures to keep our community safe.

At a meeting between the Selectboard and Fire Chief Bennett on March 10th, 2020, we discussed how Princeton will react, and what has already been done, in the event of a COVID-19 case. The fire department has already stocked up on various necessities, such as face masks, and has been given protocols by the state of Massachusetts as to how best deal with an infected patient. These include how a patient is to be handled, how a patient should be transported to a hospital, and even how the ambulance is to be disinfected after transporting an infected person.

We have prepared for a potential case in Princeton, but the best treatment is always prevention. Even if it does reach Princeton, we want to minimize spread and that is up to each individual within the community. We ask everyone to follow guidelines laid out by the WHO and the CDC to try and stop the spread of this virus. Small things like avoiding large groups, washing your hands on a regular basis, and limiting direct contact with those who may have been around infected people, are critical.

The following Town of Princeton operated facilities will be closed to public access until April 1, 2020, at which time the situation will be reassessed. These facilities include the Town Office Building, the Senior and Community Center, the Public Safety Complex, and the Highway Department.  The Princeton Public Library is closed through April 7th.

We here at the Selectboard thank you for expressing your concerns and will be open to further comments as we actively pursuing the safest route for the Town. But we all need to do our part and help the community as a whole.

For up to date information, see the Board of Health’s page on the Town’s website.  You can also dial 211 to hear statewide information.

Best Wishes and Stay Safe,

Princeton Selectboard
