Princeton Historical Society Annual Meeting and Presentation

PRINCETON HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING - Saturday, November 20th 

Amy Sohn, a NYTimes best selling author will present her new book, The Man who Hated Women; Sex, Censorship, and Civil Liberties in the Gilded Age. It is a history of Anthony Comstock, a special agent of the US Post Office, and his crusade for a federal anti-obscenity law known as The Comstock Act, passed in 1873.  The book features those who fought back, among them Angela Heywood and her husband Ezra from Princeton, Massachusetts.

Amy Sohn is a former columnist at New York magazine and has written for Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, tithe Nation, and The New York Times.  Her published novels include Prospect Park West and The Motherland. She will give an overview of her new book with a focus on the Heywoods.
